Mom loved this book. She has read several of Sarah Morgan books and loves them all. They are all extremely good reads. I get all these romance novels for her. She loves to read and this book was no exception. I know when she loves a book because she will read it in a day or two. This book was read in a day. In addition, I am on the hunt for more Sarah Morgan novels. Mom is always happy to receive books that Sarah Morgan has written. The author writing style and story draws the reader into the story. And this one did exactly that.I never tell about the book itself as I DO NOT want to spoil anything for another reader. Mom may give me a synopsis about the book but I never talk about the storyline. Hate it when someone tells me something about the story that occurs 3/4 the way thru a book or a reviewer tells me they do finally get married. I don’t want you spoiling my reading and I do not want to spoil your reading when it comes to a good book. I figure it you are wanting to know a little about the story, you can read the synopsis that Amazon and the author gives you. This is definitely a recommend to Mom’s Beauty Shop Book Group. She loves Sarah Morgan novels.
This is the first book by Sarah Morgan that I have had the pleasure to read. I thoroughly enjoyed the storyline (even if it was a bit cliched - empty nesters/mid life crisis). The two main characters are likeable and well developed personalities. They meet under unusual circumstances in Paris and develop a deep bond of friendship. What makes their relationship unique is that Grace is a forty-something woman and Audrey is barely eighteen - yet both are experiencing an identity crisis as their long standing roles are changing.Despite the fact that I found the pacing a bit uneven (some aspects of the story seemed belabored), I do recommend adding this novel to your summer reading list.
I enjoyed this book very much. The two main characters, Grace and Audrey, are very-well fleshed out and garner a lot of empathy from a reader’s perspective. Of course, what’s not to like about Paris, old bookstores and new lovers? The writing is well-rounded and fast paced. A great beach or vacation read.Since I was reading a pre-publishing uncorrected proof, I would like to point out to the editors (hope you’re paying attention) of a few inconsistencies. In one part, Grace is eating a baguette. A few chapters later she says she doesn’t eat bread. In another part, Grace opens the door and exhibits her disturbed emotional state by being described as having her buttons mismatched on her blouse, yet two pages later she is described as wearing a dress. Also, numerous typos and incorrect or missing words (thank you spell check.) I’m sure these small matters will be fixed before the final publishing.
I’ve never read a Sarah Morgan book and I don’t read romances, but I love books set in Paris and there was something appealing about the book description. Although the impetus for the novel is Grace’s husband leaving her after 25 years of marriage, the key relationship is between Grace and Audrey, an 18-year old Londoner whom she meets in Paris.Grace, Audrey, Grace’s daughter Sophie and grandmother Mimi all discover that by sharing the truth about their lives with each other, they become stronger. The female characters in the book were all flawed, but believable. The romance element was a little too neat, but it's not the predominant emphasis of the book.
